If you wish to speak with an employee about a larger topic, like teamwork, goal attainment, or participation in meetings, you will surely have to spend more time and introduce more skills or topics. The key is to be flexible. You have to be familiar with the steps or skills thoroughly and then draw on the steps what are appropriate for every situation. As you apply the Eight Step Coaching Method and use it often, you will be more at ease. The more you use it, the less often you will notice that you're working with a set plan.
Don't be misled by the labels. Coaching is not a strict process. In fact, research showed that the Eight Step Coaching Model is more often utlized by supervisors in casual discussions, as opposed to formal ones.
Be sure to condition yourself in the event you get into a formal situation. When a coaching momen.comes informally or spontaneously, we suggest you pick and choose the skills or steps that you wish to bring out at that moment. Just always take note that coaching is a process, so feel free to modify along the way.
